Ooo! That chill in the air is nice. Still, things were sunny and warm at Trina Turk's Spring/Summer 2010 presentation in Chelsea yesterday, partially because of the inviting atmosphere and free drinks, but mostly because of her "Palm Springs Eternal" theme. Watch as Turk explains why there were lounging, dancing models everywhere we looked and bedding, umbrellas, and pillows emblazoned with her trademark prints. Head below the jump for a two-minute weekend in California.

New York Fashion Week not only showcases impressive designers from the U.S., but from around the world. One designer we met up this week hails from the little island of New Zealand. Designer Alexandra Owen presented her Spring/Summer 2011 collection at a quaint little SoHo apartment in NYC. We had a chance to view the line up close and chat with Ms. Owen during the busy week. Click play to meet her now.

Readers— here’s a little green video moment from New York Fashion Week. As you may know, more designers are going the sustainable route when it comes to creating their labels. John Patrick for Organic by John Patrick is one designer who focuses on eco-friendly clothing production (he’ll be speaking on our Behind the Seams sustainable panel in October that you should check out by the way). In the meantime, click play below to take a look at the Organic by John Patrick Spring 2011 collection.

French lady turned Brooklynite Alice Ritter presented her Spring 2011 collection earlier this week at the CFDA’s Fashion Incubator, a space for twelve selected designers to use and showcase their labels. Ms. Ritter chose 10 pieces to represent her collection for this year’s presentation. Take a peek at what she chose in the video below.

The week we've been waiting for has finally begun and we've been out and about to check out some of New York Fashion Week's best events. First up, we'd like to introduce you to Rachel Dooley, head designer of Gemma Redux, a collection of handmade, statement jewelry that has become a celebrity favorite line. We chatted with Dooley at the CFDA's Fashion Incubator presentation in the Garment District yesterday. She gave us a sneak peek of her Spring/Summer 2011 collection and shares advice for you emerging designers. To view this collection and hear what she said about surviving the industry, head below the break and click play now.

Perhaps you’ve seen their work atop Ke$ha’s dome on the cover of Paper, or maybe resting on the head of your favorite party monster. They’re Spirit Hoods, the heard of four-plus LA-based feral fashion children that we introduced you to during February’s MAGIC conference. Now, they’re the first designers in our “Design With…” contest series (details soon to come) and a rising force in the accessories market. Unsurprisingly, it turns out that the zoophile designers have a fairly good sense of humor. We hunted down two founding members of this woolly bunch, Ashley Haber (who despite his name, is a confirmed dude) and Alexander Mendeluk to discuss their design process, tacos, that Paper cover, and, yes, more tacos.

Over at Closettour, human ray o' sunshine Jenni Avins continues her adventures in New York apparel production, this time sitting down with IMG New York Fashion Week founder and Behind The Seams panelist, Fern Mallis, opening windows onto the history of manufacturing in the city and their families. Like Mallis and millions of other decedents of European and Jewish immigrants (this writer included), Avins can trace her lineage back to first-generation Americans working in Manhattan's schmatta trade (that's "rag trade" to you gentiles). With a stopover at the studio of Bibhu Mohapatra, a representative of the latest generation of fashion immigrants, it's a fun look back at clothes making in the city published just as we start to look forward with New York Fashion Week. It's here! Tomorrow marks the semi-official start of New York Fashion Week. To prepare you for the big event (and, evidently, to prevent young fashion reporters asking designers obvious questions) The Cut offers a slide show featuring 100 designers and their 100+ inspirations Spring 2011 collections. Offerings include photos, fabrics, notes, and actual sketchbook images making the slide show a sort of clickable preview of the week ahead. Notables include Alexander Wang’s photo of a “White-Out” bottle and Betsey Johnson’s superhero-themed images.

Elsewhere, old-school photos give us a taste of Milly’s “eccentric” collection and Organic by John Patrick’s “mythical” theme, while with Tibi designer Amy Smilovic offers us a whole new word: “modernlyclassicalybeautiful”. Those last three designers will be at our Behind The Seams event, by the way. So what’s my favorite?  I have to give it up to Rachel Roy for her colorful and spotted “cosmic” designs. What can I say? I like Easter egg meets celestial look. To see what the rest of the designers submitted, head over to The Cut. [The Cut]

Jason Wu, Richard Chai, and Alexander Wang have a few things in common. They're young. They're hip. They're some of the most talked about designers to be involved in New York Fashion Week. Also, as the New York Times points out in an article this weekend, they're all Asian… or did you not notice?
